Highly visible, mobile and cost effective, printed T-Shirts can be ideal for use in a promotional campaign. Here are 5 tips to help you get it right.

When you have a message to deliver or a brand to promote, you need a promotional item that can provide the maximum exposure, for the longest time and at the lowest price. Every year a new range of promotional goods come to market but it has to be said that for high impact promotions, printed T-Shirts still take some beating.

Here are 5 tips for success:

1. Allow plenty of time to source your printed Tees - don't leave arrangements until the week before the event, as the chances are something will go wrong and you will have missed a valuable opportunity. The old adage is true: If you fail to plan, then plan to fail.

If the printing is fairly straight forward, then a supplier may be able to turn your job around quickly or offer an express service but don't bank on this, as there may be 50 other clients in the queue before you.

For a new promotional project or campaign, try to allow at least a month (if not two) before the deadline - final production may only take a matter of days but allowing time will help you to choose a suitable T-Shirt, discuss branding, receive the mockup/sample and approve it in good time.

2. Choose a good quality garment at a reasonable price - this is far more cost effective than simply buying a cheap T-Shirt, as a good quality printed Tee will last longer and provide increased exposure for your brand!

People are naturally inclined to wear garments they like on a more regular basis, which means continued advertising and therefore a greater return on your investment.

3. Choose a style of T-Shirt that's in keeping with your promotion and in a size or range of sizes that suit your target audience. There are lots of promotional T-Shirts available: Solid colour, ones with short, three quarter or long sleeves, in plain or contrast colour; in Cotton, Organic Cotton or even the latest sports fabrics, like 'moisture wicking' Polyester.

I know it sounds obvious but if your promotion is aimed at fashionable cosmetics for young women, then go for a ladies fitted T-shirt in a fashionable colour and choose sizes that will flatter - don't adopt a one-size-fits-all approach.

4. Determine the minimum quantity of printed Tees that you might require for the promotion and then add 10 to 20% (depending on quantity). In most cases it's better to have a few more garments available than to run out of T-Shirts part way through an event or campaign and if you've made the right decisions with your chosen product then having a few more people advertising your brand can only be a good thing.

Obtain quotes from two or three different suppliers and ask for a price for the next quantity break as well, as it may be more cost effective to buy a larger quantity (such as 500 rather than 400).

5. Ask each supplier for advice and make sure you provide them with a full brief of what you are looking for, what you want to achieve, any special packing/delivery requirements and the deadline for delivery. Send them the logo/logos that are to be printed in both 'eps' and 'jpg' file formats, with details of size/position and any Pantone colours that you require matching.

Select the supplier that not only offers you competitive prices but that you can also feel confident in.

So there you have it, a few simple tips that should help you select the right T-Shirt and ensure the success of your promotional campaign!
